[edit] Intro

On the Simulism explanation page, The Sims play a prominent role. The Sims is a computer game, available for most platforms, and was invented by Will Wright (the creator of Sim City). It is produced and distributed by Maxis.

It is a simulation game where the player controls one or more characters during their day-to-day life.

The characters are modeled after humans; they have basic needs and basic emotions, and the goal of the game is to keep the character healthy, and to give it personal growth.

In the game, you can build a house, buy carpeting, furniture and all sorts of objects, to make your sims feel at home.

I see The Sims as the digital equivalent of a dollhouse.

[edit] Expansion Packs

There are numerous expansion packs that enrich the world of The Sims with new possibilities and objects. Extensions and plugins can be downloaded. Although new features are added, the basic gameplay is unaffected by the extensions.

[edit] The Sims Online

In The Sims, you control one or more characters, and the computer controls all other characters. With the arrival of The Sims Online, it became possible to connect the worlds of The Sims over the internet, and interact with characters controlled by other players. The Sims Online is therefore already a lot more a simulation of the real world than the original game was.

More detailed information on The Sims can be found on its wikipedia page.
