I believe that this view is not correct, unless the simulation is limited to a solipsistic simulation of a single mind, and all others are philosphical zombies. See The article on Time. It is difficult to see what would be achieved by reverting to a 'save file' other than experiencing what happened at a particular point in time. Running the simulation forward from that point would not necessarily achieve the desired effect of changing events, unless all the other minds contemporaneous with the time traveller moved back to that point too. If you did not do this, you would be simply setting up a pseudo-time travelling experience for a single user, who could apparently change events in the past, but in fact, on the return to the present would find everything the same.
